1997 Dobro Wood Body W/ Cutaway
Here we have quite an oddball resophonic from a transitory period in Dobro’s history. As near as we can tell (do feel free to correct us if you know the specifics of this piece!) this piece seems to be have been cobbled together from various parts in the Dobro shop, constructed during the period that Gibson had acquired the brand, and was moving their facilities. Though the serial number on the headstock dates to 1997, there are two dates on the inside of the piece itself, one from October of 1992 (one year prior to the Gibson acquisition of OMI), and the other from May of 1998 (one year after Gibson moved production from Huntington Beach to Nashville)! In addition to the dating conundrum, this particular resonator seems to be a wholly unique model, sporting features of both the DW90C and the Zephyr.
Sonically, it is exactly what one could expect from the Dobro name. Its laminate maple body and biscuit cone provide a sound that is bright and warm, balanced and full, equally at home in the hands of a fingerstyle player, slide, or even first position cowboy chords. Whether a seasoned pro, or a total newbie to the world of resophonics, this unique guitar would be a fine companion.
Cosmetic Condition:
This guitar was meticulously cared for by its previous owner and as such shows only normal minor signs of playwear, most notably subtle scuffing of the cone from an enthusiastic picker. It has also been upgraded with a K&K Pure Resonator SB Pickup. We would consider this to be in EXCELLENT CONDITION.
