2021 70s Flying V in Olive Drab
Is there any guitar that’s more Rock ‘n Roll than the Gibson Flying V? Sure, Strats and Les Pauls may have been found on more recordings but no guitar truly embodies the spirit of Rock in the way that a Flying V does. It’s a spectacle, an exercise in excess that makes sure all eyes are firmly planted on it rather than that pesky lead singer.
From its inception, the Flying V was a guitar with its eyes firmly aimed at the future. In many ways, it was akin to one of our favorite Marty McFly quotes, “I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it.” It didn’t catch on upon initial release in 1958 but its reissue in 1967 proved to be a different story and the guitar has made its way in and out of Gibson’s offerings ever since. Lonnie Mack and Albert King were early adopters, finding that the V supplied all of the Blues Power that they needed. Fast forward and rock royalty like Jimi Hendrix, Billy Gibbons, Leslie West, Nancy Wilson, and more were incorporating Vs into their arsenal. Eventually, the aggressive voice and aesthetic of the Flying V made a huge impression on new generations of players of all types, from heavy metal shredders to psychedelic explorers.
This particular Flying V, in its unusual but striking Olive Drab finish, is a throwback to its classic ‘70s iteration. Built to shred with its SlimTaper neck and effortless upper fret access, this V’s high output ‘70s Tribute pickups are well suited to high octane rock, blues, and beyond. Many people see Flying Vs as the ultimate stage guitar and one that is entirely impractical to play while sitting down. However, one might be surprised to find out that playing a V sitting down results in being forced to play in classical position for better ergonomic posture and continued ease of upper fret access. This ‘70s Flying V provides all of the soaring tones for lead players the type of rocking drive that makes sure that rhythm players are sure to have a blast, too!
This guitar was exceedingly well-kept by its previous owner and shows no signs of use or wear. We would rate this in EXCELLENT+ TO LIKE NEW condition.
