Paying homage to the coveted year of Gibson guitar production, this Custom Shop R9 Les Paul with Murphy Labs Ultra Heavy Relicing is everything you would expect and hope to hear from a classic 1959 Les Paul. Prior to receiving this guitar, the stock pickups were swapped out for a pair of Lollar El Rayo PAF-Style humbuckers. The El Rayo humbucker is known for having great touch sensitivity and plenty of room to work with the volume. In contrast to many other PAF style pickups, the El Rayos are very suitable to send signal into pedals or a clean amp without pushing them too hard. This allows much more creative space and tonal exploration of your gear. They give the guitar an edge of tight low end and pronounced midrange suitable for pushing your amp to the edge of breakup. The responsiveness of these pickups also allows for optimal expression and a dynamic playing style. The stock pickups are still present with the guitar and will be included in the purchase.

Just shy in size of the “baseball bat” neck carve, the 50’s rounded medium C shape proves to be very comfortable to play. It exists at a size that nicely fills the palm of your hand but still leaves room to easily move around the fingerboard. With the added feature of an already "worn in" neck, this Les Paul feels like it has been sufficiently broken in with needing to wait 70 years for that kind of feel. The guitar itself weighs in at 8.75 lbs, making it a more manageable guitar to stand with than some of its heavier counterparts.

A figured maple lemon burst top, solid yet lightweight mahogany body and rosewood fingerboard all combine under a Murphy Labs Ultra Heavy Relic finish to give you the spirit and aesthetic appointments of a ’59 Les Paul. As such, this Gibson R9 could be the perfect guitar for someone looking to wield the history-defining sound of one of the most sought after guitars in the history of rock and roll.

This guitar appears to have been kept in very good condition by its original owner. Due to the heavy relic job, it is quite difficult to tell which dings are original and which are new. Otherwise, this guitar is in great shape and we would rate it as excellent condition.
