1978 Stratocaster in 3-Tone Sunburst
Guitar aficionados are sometimes guilty of broad generalizations regarding certain eras of production guitars. Think Norlin era Gibsons for example. The CBS era Fenders occasionally get a bad rap, but there were many great instruments produced. This Hardtail Stratocaster from 1978 is a great example of the CBS years, which ran from 1965 to 1985. As an aside, when the 3-tone sunburst Stratocaster was introduced, it became quite popular. In 1978 the natural finish guitars took the top spot. Hence, there were fewer 3-tone sunbursts produced that year. All in all, this is a great guitar with an almost 50 year history of stories and songs.
CONDITION:
As a guitar of a certain age, there are various finish dings on the body and neck consistent with regular use, most notably some chips through the finish on the sides of the body and on the top at the bass side horn; second fret seems to have been modified and/or replaced; one neck bolt is seemingly stripped and loose – VERY GOOD + condition
