The Sting Ray 3 is everything you need in a bass and nothing you don’t. The simple single-pickup design provides a straight ahead solution to the decision paralysis that often accompanies instruments with a vast array of features. If there is one thing to take away from this bass, it’s that it perfectly embodies the spirit of a workhorse instrument.

I sat down with this bass to give it a run and see what it was all about. The first thing I noticed was how compact and simple it felt. Everything from the strings to the first fret is comfortably within reach, combined with a beautifully contoured body that sits in your lap with ease. The neck profile, albeit larger, is immensely attractive. It fills up your hand in a way that makes really digging into notes a breeze. Combined with our shop-spec setup, these features make this bass enjoyable for just about anyone.

Perhaps my favorite feature of this instrument is the single humbucking pickup. Combined with a 3-band EQ, the player has a wide array of tonal options without ever having to rely on another pickup. It is placed in such a way that provides a great balance of bridge attack and neck roundness, and also is touch sensitive enough to handle expressive playing. This bass can go from D’Angelo-like thumping tones to a bright and punchy pick attack sound with ease. A truly versatile bass, the StingRay 3 EQ H is a fine addition to any low-end-lover’s collection.

This instrument exhibits hardly any wear, and as such we would rate it as EXCELLENT condition.
