The 1930’s Advanced Jumbo, J-45 and the iconic early 60’s Epiphone Texan all lent their considerable retro cool to the origins of our Vintage Southerner Model. Each one of these guitars was a favorite of several of SCGC’s veteran luthiers and so inspired this regal compliment to the SCGC VJ Model. The must have feature of the SCGC VS is the shorter, 24-3/4 inch scale length. It is so yielding to the touch that fretting and reach are a pleasure. The scale puts the bridge in the optimal position to produce the comforting, growling presence of an old blues recording. Those of us who have played this guitar in the shop have noticed its immediate response and low end bloom, while still maintaining great balance. When played delicately, it has a nice airy feel, but there is also a second gear that yields big sound and low end growl. We consider this to be killer example of what the VJ and VS series can do.

Condition:

This guitar has some very subtle capo wear on the back of the neck. There are also some minor scratches on the back lower bout that are only visible in certain light. One of the Waverley tuners has a hairline crack and we have a replacement on order. The original owner installed a Fishman Rare Earth sound hole pickup, which has been removed. We have replaced the 1/4” jack with a standard end pin and there is a finish flaw where the jack was removed. This would be mitigated by a newly installed jack, should the new owner choose to add a pickup. Otherwise, what we have is a beautiful and very clean Vintage Southerner! We would rate this guitar in EXCELLENT+ condition
