While we have not had an inordinate amount of Iris guitars come through the doors here at Maple Street, it is always a treat when one does. Similar to offerings by Waterloo, Iris draws great inspiration from Depression Era flattops. This is not only apparent in the general aesthetic, but also in the overall sound.

Focused, and balanced, with a pronounced midrange punch, the D-WH is a natural guitar for a flatpicker. When one digs in more aggressively, you find the ceiling is actually quite high before it wants to compress. When strummed with a lighter touch, its focus stays the same without losing body or depth. As a fingerstyle instrument, it has enough chime and note separation that notes stand independent of one another while not losing their weight.

From an aesthetic standpoint, it similarly threads the needle of modern meets old school. With an open pore finish, hand poured tortoise pickguard and spartan adornemnts (eg simple dot inlays), you feel like you’re playing a functional piece of art as you play.

Putting it all together, this would be an ideal choice for players of all stripe, that enjoy a more vintage sound and look, with the reliability of a modern, high end build.
