2020 GS Mini Rosewood

$500.00

“Whether you're a new player looking for a comfortable first guitar or an experienced guitarist seeking a travel companion, the GS Mini offers the ideal combination of portability and rich tone. This model features a solid Sitka spruce top paired with layered Rosewood back and sides, yielding a bold, clear response that punches far above its weight as a shorter-scale guitar. Players will appreciate the slender neck profile and low action, providing a relaxed feel that's accommodating to players of all skill levels. And with the included gig bag, you're all set to take the GS Mini on the road for any musical occasion.” – From the Taylor Website

After decades of subpar travel guitar designs leading up to the late ‘00s, we now enjoy a Plethora of great options.  Indeed, the demand for higher quality scaled-down instruments has never been higher!  This is, in part due to the fact that travel guitars are for more than just travel.  They make for excellent casual “around the town” guitars, couch guitars, or better-fitted options for serious young players who are still growing.  Within the market for travel guitars, The Taylor GS Mini stands apart as perhaps the successful design—in fact, it has recently been reported that, if the GS Mini production were its own guitar company, it would be one of the largest guitar manufacturers (by some estimates, fifth!) in North America, in terms of volume.  Needless to say, Taylor hit it out of the park when they introduced the GS Mini in 2010; and, one would be hard pressed to find a more popular small-scale acoustic guitar among young players and experienced players alike.

The widespread success of this design can largely be attributed to the surprising body of sound that the GS Mini produces relative to its size.  A key ingredient here is the voluptuous soundboard template, where a broadened lower bout helps this otherwise compact instrument generate a healthy amount of low end response.  When this enhanced low end is combined with Taylor’s signature immediacy and sparkling definition, the result is a bold, yet spunky and evocative voicing.  For this reason, GS Minis even record well in a studio setting, wielding an EQ response that stays out of the way of the bass-biased instruments in the mix.  Simply put, the GS Mini is a wonderful tool for creativity—it is the sort of guitar that prompts one to exclaim, “Everyone should have one of these!”  So, whether functioning as the perfect songwriting guitar, couch companion, or travel buddy, the GS Mini is in the “must have” column of any guitarist’s checklist.  In response to the popularity of the model, Taylor has now introduced a variety of GS minis, often featuring upgraded back and side materials, fancier finishes, and pickups.  This 2020 example features lovely looking layered rosewood back and sides, which primarily gives it a tasteful degree of classic visual contrast (otherwise, it should be noted that the makeup of a layered or laminated material has less bearing on acoustic tone than it would in the case of a solid piece of wood).
