The Martin D-18 guitar is universally recognized as an American classic. What has made it iconic is its uncommon natural tonal balance and its honest, direct and faithful voice. And, even though this model has had structural changes over the years, the combination of its solid mahogany back and sides with a solid spruce top is a time tested mating that has proven tonally effective over and over again. Today, some players often prefer D-18's more from one era than another, and, in Martin's current catalog, different iterations of the D-18 are now offered which are designed to represent past flavors of this model. Perhaps, this trend influenced Martin in 2018 to once again tweak the recipe of the contemporary D-18 by combining elements of past models with some modern features. With the enhancements to its appearance and the tweaks to maximize its sound and playability, this incarnation of the venerable D-18 may be Martin's best to date. - From the Martin website
