Taking a cue from the simplicity and elegance of depression era guitar builds, Santa Cruz has taken the aesthetics of days gone by and married them to the highly precise construction standards for which they are known to create a truly unique and beautiful instrument.

Every aesthetic choice is executed with subtlety on this 00. Nickel Waverly tuners, a script headstock logo, and a satin finish to the neck (which also sports a soft “v” neck carve) give it a distinctly vintage feel as does the understated rosette and teardrop tortoise pickguard. Even the Full Body Burst Finish is so subtle that calling it a burst almost feels a misnomer.

As good as this guitar looks, it sounds even better. Given its slight stature, it is a natural choice for the fingerstyle player. Notes leap off the fingerboard with chime and clarity, and a voice and projection that belie its smaller size. The neck is as fast playing as you want it to be, but with each note sounding so rich and complex, one is instinctively compelled to let each chord ring. As a strummer, you don’t lose any of that harmonic richness. Immediately present with a notable attack, complex sweetness follows immediately making each chord a rich and full experience. This is truly an exquisite instrument that is an absolute joy to play.
