What can be said about the Martin D-28 that hasn’t already been said? Truly, if a “Guitar Hall Of Fame” ever opens, the D-28 would be on the first ballot. It’s big and bold voice has long been favored by everyone from the season veteran to enthusiast looking for that “heirloom quality” guitar and all parties in between. These guitars have seen countless stages and innumerable homes and there may be no guitar more emblematic of the title of “THE American Steel String Acoustic Guitar.” 

‘70s Martins aren’t always held in the highest regard, but this particular 1973 D-28 has all of the things that we look for in a great vintage Martin. The “Martin sound” is well-represented here as the bass is full and lush, the trebles are clear and warm, and the characteristic “mid scoop” further reinforces those frequencies along with its blooming harmonics. It’s dynamic enough to handle a heavy right hand attack but still welcomes a relaxed and careful touch. There’s no wonder, then, why this guitar has compelled so many guitarists of all ages to indulge themselves in the huge and voluminous tones that await them.

Condition:

This D-28 was well-maintained by its previous owner and its cosmetics belie its near 50 years of age! Still, this wasn’t a guitar that was neglected over its life and does show some minor signs of cosmetic wear. There are numerous scratches and blemishes throughout the instrument but none are particularly deep or unsightly. The original pickguard was replaced and a crack that formed under it has been repaired. We would rate this guitar in VERY GOOD+ to EXCELLENT condition.
