John studied music theory, jazz and classical guitar with Frank Mullen at St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, FL. and began teaching music full-time in 1988 at Bringe School of Music.
John has been a performing musician since he was 16 years old. He plays guitar, keyboards, bass, ukulele, and loves singing and writing songs.
He is obsessed with discovering new music and encourages his students to seek out new and wonderful sounds. He’s been featured on over 30 albums by various artists like The Sunset District, The Good Graces, Spiller, Parade in Paris, Lie and many more.
After 12 years as a full-time musician, he returned to college to obtain his BA in Information Technology and, after 20+ years in the field, he's returning full-time to teaching and performing again with a technology forward approach to instruction. His lessons are uniquely tailored for each student while taking advantage of remote learning, instructional videos and tutorials.
In recent years, he’s performed alongside bands as diverse as Patti Smith, The Indigo Girls, Superchunk, Marilyn Manson, Fishbone, Soundgarden, G. Love, and many more.
