Fender AM DLX J-BASS 1999 Fender American Deluxe Active J-Bass with Maple Fingerboard

General Description:

As one of the most iconic Fender designs, the Jazz Bass really needs no introduction, as it has been seen in the hands of so many legendary players: Geddy Lee, Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, Noel Redding, Adam Clayton, Flea, Sting, Ron Blair, and the list goes on, and on, and on…. Initially introduced as “the Deluxe” in 1960, the Jazz bass was intended to offer greater ease of play and tonal variety to the more discerning bassist over its very popular predecessor, the Precision Bass. This was principally achieved by the addition of another pickup and individual volume and tone controls for each pickup. The offset body and the narrower 1 7/16” nut (eventually expanded to 1 5/8”) also translated to a notable change in the physical playing experience. Needless to say, the design was a success, as evidenced by the tremendous roster of Jazz Bass enthusiasts, famous and not so famous alike!

The American Deluxe models are a more contemporary take on the classic design. In particular an active 3-band EQ, featuring a stacked bass/treble pot and a separate mid-range pot, allows the player to truly fine tune their tone. Meanwhile, in lieu of the traditional volume and tone controls for each pickup, the Deluxe model has a master volume with a pickup blend, making subtle blends of pickup response easier to achieve on the fly. Combined with the Vintage Noiseless single coil pickups, the American Deluxe J-Bass presents a classic tonal palate with an additional degree of refinement.

This particular 1999 American Deluxe J-Bass is surprisingly resonant and fluid in terms of play. Most impressively, this bass is remarkably light—possibly one of the lightest examples we’ve encountered—weighing in at only 7.9 lbs! Like all instruments we sell, it has been professionally setup and thoroughly prepped for sale to be in the best condition possible. For anyone looking for a great value in a J-Bass, this guitar is a true find!

Cosmetic Condition:

For its age, this bass is quite clean. We note only a few minor dents and fine finish scratches on the body--the most obvious of these are a scratched/marred section on the top (near the tip of bass side horn) and a nearby dent, which is most visible at an angle. We do also note a very small section of missing finish under the D string at the fourth fret, measuring approximately 6 mm long by 1.5 mm wide. Finally, while in great condition overall, the original molded plastic hard case does have an impact crush (corresponding to the bass side lower bout) where some material is missing. EXCELLENT+ condition.
