2002 Daryl Perry 8-String Classical with Brazilian and Spruce
From the Daryl Perry website:
"Iíve been making classical guitars since 1982. Early in my career I was introduced to the central ideas of the Torres school. I have been working with these ideas ever since, refining my understanding of them and developing the craftsmanship that brings them to life. The ideas of Torres have formed the foundation for the evolution of the guitar from the 19th century, through the 20th and into the 21st century, as the demands upon the guitar have changed. My development as a guitar maker has been more one of discovery rather than reinvention of the guitar. I make historical reproductions as a way of discovering and inheriting the tradition. My concert guitars are my contribution to its evolution."
This guitar is from the estate of a late dear friend of ours who we had the privilege to know for more than forty years. He had a passion for music of all kinds that he indulged actively, not just as a listener, but also as a player. And while we knew him because of our shared special interest in music for classical guitar and lute which he studied and played seriously despite the demands of his day job as a psychology professor, we were delightfully surprised recently to discover that our friend's passion for music of all kinds meant having instruments of all kinds - and not just one of each. Thus, besides this guitar and a few others we are helping to sell for his estate, he had nearly two hundred other instruments in his collection the existence of which reveals his intense fascination not only for an amazingly wide range of music made worldwide, but also for the exotic tools used for creating it.
This stunning 8-string classical guitar made by Daryl Perry features gorgeous Brazilian rosewood back and sides with a European spruce top, a mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard, and custom Rogers tuning machines. And, but for some matted areas to the French polished finish which were probably caused from prolonged contact with the case lining, this guitar's condition is superb with hardly any trace of playing or handling wear. Otherwise, because of its masterful construction, this 8-string guitar is surprisingly easy to play. And its delicious voice, enriched with extra overtones from its expanded range, produces an extraordinary, mesmerizing sound - aural umami.
We spoke to Daryl Perry about this guitar, and he stated that the replacement cost of this guitar would be $13,000.
This guitar includes a Calton fiberglass travel case. (used)
