Henry, Jeff: ML(Item ID: ML Serial#: 62)
Model ML with Engelmann Spruce Top and Indian Rosewood Back and Sides
A bit about Jeff Henry:
"I have been in luthiery for over twenty years. I started building, sidetracked into repair work and now am back to building again. I studied guitar building on the coast of Maine, set up shop in Asheville, NC and then Atlanta. Having spent the last fifteen years working in repairs at Maple Street Guitars has given me the kind of experience one cannot buy. To have access to the store’s instruments as well as what customers brought in is undeniably a great education.
I decided to return to building to see if I could integrate what I have learned. Luthiery is a challenging and humbling field. The guitar sometimes takes charge and you have to work with it rather than against it. I learned this at the repair bench and bring it to my building. I am not trying to reinvent the acoustic guitar, but to stay in the tradition of the world’s finest instruments with my own take on it."
Regarding this guitar, Jeff continues:
"The ML model is currently my smallest guitar. It has a shape which was originally based on a jumbo guitar that has been downsized. The instrument has wonderful sustain and projection and offers a clear tone with solid note definition. The top is Engelmann Spruce which lends itself to the fingerstylist. Indian Rosewood back and sides give it a foundation which gives voice to being driven. Add an ebony fretboard and bridge, koa binding and an abalone rosette and fretboard inlays to complete this sweet guitar.
This particular instrument is a culmination of what I have learned over the past twenty something years building and repairing guitars. It is a responsive delicate instrument with a light nitrocellulose finish that allows the guitar to breathe. I have built a balanced instrument that hopefully will make the player want to play more. It has been described as a cross between a Goodall and an Olson.
And if you’re wondering what ML stands for, they’re my wife’s initials, which may help convince your significant other this guitar would be good for all involved."
This guitar includes a Hiscox Pro-II Liteflite hardshell case.
